Budding Butlers

Based on the success of Jamie Oliver’s ‘Fifteen’ a new social enterprise has been formed to train and provide employment for local Hampshire people in the hospitality sector.  Unlike ‘Fifteen’ however, The Academy of Hospitality and Hotel-keeping will offer training in all aspects of hospitality except training to be a chef.  Throughout their training the trainee hotel butlers will be employed by the trading arm of the Academy which offers a personalised catering and event management service.  The Academy will operate under the umbrella of The Business of Learning, a local charitable organisation.  Local Test Valley businessmen have commented that “although there are national qualifications for hospitality there are currently no colleges in Hampshire offering comprehensive training  covering every aspect of hotel-keeping;  so this is a very exciting project for us.  In addition,  delivery of the training using a ‘hands on’ approach  will suit people who previously may have not succeeded in more traditional learning environments”.

The event management service will offer paid employment to the trainee hotel butlers at a range of   private parties, weddings, networking and corporate functions.  With the option of two entry points either as young trainee hotel butlers 14 – 18 or  trainee hotel butlers - 18 plus they will work towards a recognised national qualification NVQ 2 in Hospitality and progress on to the new City and Guilds Diploma for Butlers.  The trainees will be given full butler livery to wear throughout their taught training and work experience.  The training will be delivered by industry experts and visits to first class venues will be included.  It is envisaged that at the end of their training the participants will be qualified and well equipped for employment in 4 star plus establishments.  For further information call 02380 733 073 or email info@thebusinessoflearning.co.uk.
